Antique English Elsmore & Forster Jug

Huge Elsmore and Forster earthenware transfer printed and hand-colored jug with a second carrying handle, featuring the figure of Joe Cashmore, a well-known circus clown of his day. Jug is decorated with various circus animals.

For reference see "The Price Guide to 19th and 20th Century British Pottery" by David Battie and Michael Turner, page 82. The animals on the jug are based on wood engravings by Thomas Bewick in his "General History of Quadrupeds."
